The following information should assist you in determining whether your child should report to school if the weather is bad.
Notification: The Blackboard Connect, one-call phone system, will be implemented for students attending New Connections at Earlywood in the event of school closing or delay. Please check your phone for voice mail messages left for information regarding a delay or school closing. If you did not receive a call, please verify your contact information with a secretary at Earlywood 317-736-8495. In addition, we will post closing and delay information on our Earlywood Facebook page and WTHR Channel 13 ONLY. Earlywood’s delays and closings are sometimes listed as Special Services, Johnson County Schools or Johnson County Special Services or Earlywood Education Center.
Home District vs Earlywood: If New Connections at Earlywood is open, but your home school corporation is delayed or closed, transportation will also be delayed or closed. We do expect your child to report to Earlywood, when it is safe to do so, if your home school is on a delay, even if it means your child will only be here for an hour or so. You may choose to transport your child to our programs yourself or wait for the bus on the delayed time schedule. If New Connections at Earlywood is closed, but your home school corporation is open, your child should not report to Earlywood.
Early Dismissal: If in the unlikely event we need to dismiss school early, your child’s teacher will call you prior to your child being sent home. If you have any questions, please feel free to call your child’s teacher. If you have questions on a particular day, contact, our main number at 317- 736-8495.
eLearning: This year we will be utilizing eLearning on days school is canceled due to inclement weather to allow our students an opportunity to continue learning without interruptions. Students will access Google Classroom to view student assignments, facilitate discussions, and submit work. All students have been issued Google Classroom account to access materials and assignments. Google Classroom will be supplemented with the materials in this follow packet. We understand that not all students have access to a device and/or the internet during the day due to individual situations, such as loss of internet due to inclement weather, child daycare, multiple students at home with a single computer, parent availability during the workday, no internet provider at home, etc. Because of this, the same or similar assignments are shared in this packet. Please keep this packet at home to be used in the event of a closure. Students will have five school days to complete any assigned eLearning Day tasks and assignments and turn in the work.
Connecting to Staff during eLearning: Teachers are required to post the agenda for eLearning Days by 9:00 a.m. and will be available from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30. Teachers will be responsible for letting parents and students know of their availability during the eLearning Day and the method by how they can be contacted (email, ClassDojo, Zoom, Google Met, etc.).
